This group of settlers lived in a loosely connected area near the Clear Fork Valley of the Trinity River, called Medera. In 1879, the Texas & Pacific Railroad built a line through to connect Ft. Worth and Weatherford. Aledo Texas!
Trains bound for the west made their first stop in Parker County at a coal and water refueling station which became known as Parker Station. Additionally, it was a pickup point for buffalo hides on the Texas and Pacific Railroad.
The first Post Office in the area was established in 1882. When mail marked “Parker County” got off the train at “Parker Station,” the U.S. Post Office instructed the smaller community to come up with another name. So, in 1882, the town was named for a railroad official’s hometown from Aledo, Illinois.

Aledo is Parker County’s oldest city and began as a farming settlement. The community was later incorporated in 1963.
The city experienced explosive growth from Fort Worth expanding in the mid 90’s. From having just over 400 citizens in the 1920’s, Aledo has grown to over 3,000 residents living within a 2.5 square mile radius.
Today, Aledo still has a uniqueness that maintains its historic character while boasting citizens who love that small town feel with big city convenience right next door. The success of Aledo Independent School District has become one of North Central Texas’ best economic engines for development thanks to its successes both academically and athletically.
The transformation from being small and rural with limited municipal services to becoming more amenity-rich is one of many goals set forth by City Council during their Strategic Planning Process. This little town outside of Fort Worth is striving with business and activities. Summer is always a nice time to visit Aledo, Texas. You will never get bored in this city as there is always something to do. Aledo has a wonderful school district and a great safe place to raise a family!
